About Us
NOT MUCH TO TELL. THIS IS A ONE WOMAN SHOW THAT NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE.
Books are the tools that inspire a child, parent and teacher to raise awareness. I am a parent, grandparent and former teacher, like many of you. We love children. We never get tired of watching a chld with curiosity. Children LOVE to learn and when they discover books and reading, they think they have gone to heaven.
My name is Sandra Kickbusch. I am just like every one of you interested in this website. I just happened to turn sixty one day and selfishly wanted to do something special in this phase of my life.
We all get a feeling of satisfaction when we give to those less fortunate than ourselves. One day I decided to make a commitment on something that has been heavy on my mind. I had lived in the tropics through 200MPH winds. Everyone lost everything that was replaceable but not their spirit. Everyone worked together to move on and rebuild. The energy of the island is something that I will never forget. As soon as everyone was safe and fed. We all went back to school. We never missed a beat. We did not wait for the Federal Government to help us.......that came later.
I budgeted my money to go to Louisiana. I wasn't looking for a company or organization to sponser me. I felt that that would put me back into New Orleans that already had attention and contribution. I wanted to see what assistance was being given to the small communities. They were being overlooked, of course. I met a lot of wonderful people in the South Plaquemines Parish. Communities that were looking to survive, go on and take care of their children. They weren't giving up and were forging ahead with their future without anyone coming to their aide.
Apparently, I was the first person to come to that parish as an individual without a sponsor. I was totally surprised when I found that, after nearly two years, there wasn't transportation or lodging available from New Orleans. I rented a car and knocked on doors until someone put me up in an empty FEMA trailer.
This is where my quest began.
